VIDEO: Low ‘Something’s Turning Over’

This is actually Alan Sparhawk playing solo the closing track from Low's forthcoming album 'C'mon'. On the album this is one of the most polished tracks they've recorded, here it's rougher but maintains much of the magic, despite the absence of Mimi Parker's sweetening harmonies.

Props to Jack White, this looks very cool! But I can't help thinking that it's probably going to appeal more to people my age rather than High School kids.

VIDEO: The Fuzztones ‘Ward 81′

A classic bit of garage rock revival from 1984. Haven't listened to this in a long while but much of their debut album Lysergic Emanations still holds up - '1-2-5', 'She's Wicked', 'Gotta Get Some'.

VIDEO: The Decemberists ‘The King Is Dead’ Live

One of my favourite live bands of 2010, The Decemberists play the whole of their new album live in front of a studio audience. Pretty special stuff, much less prog-folk than the Hazzard of Love, touches of early R.E.M. There's also an audio only version.

The Decemberists: 'The King Is Dead,' Live From Portland

The Decemberists' members had a treat for their hometown of Portland on Jan. 19. One day before setting out on a nationwide tour, Colin Meloy and his band performed their new album, The King Is Dead, in front of a live studio audience at Oregon Public Broadcasting — the first time the entire band had played these 10 new songs in a live setting.

Better yet, what happened in Portland won't stay in Portland: You can watch the concert in the video above.

The show, hosted by OPB Music's Jeremy Petersen, features an interview session in which the band took questions from the studio audience.

VIDEO: Portlandia Ep. 1

Talk about your niche comedies. Fred Armisen (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney) take the piss our of Portland and a subsection of the sort of people who live there. But don't let its none-more-indie setup put you off.

Although the not-very-good opening song sets the scene the show soon picks up. The whole extended restaurant / farm / commune / cult sketch, the women's book shop (with Steve Buscemi) and adult Hyde and Seek segments are pretty damn funny and spot on in their depiction of the characters.

You don't have to have been to Portland to find it funny (I've never been myself) as there are plenty of other places in the world where these sort of annoying humourless wankers set up. I'm can't wait to see where they go with the rest of the series.

VIDEO: artist / director Ross Harris on Elliott Smith

"My shaky camera work perfectly mirrors the feelings I have about Elliott now. I know that he's still there but I can't quite get a clear glimpse of him anymore"

In 1995 I made a video with Elliott Smith. We had a fucking great time. Video by Ross Harris. Music by Love.

VIDEO: Warpaint ‘Billie Holiday’

ReAmplify'd post by Nick Peters

I cannot wait to see Warpaint at Laneway in February. This acoustic version of a track from their debut EP is simply stunning.

VIDEO: Joan As Police Woman ‘The Magic’

I first heard of Joan Wasser about 11 years ago when someone sent me a copy of Those Bastard Souls' 'Debt and Departure'. I wasn't a massive fan of that album but even then Wasser had already amassed an interesting resume working with Mary Timony, Michaal Tighe and Nathan Larson as well as having been Jeff Buckley's other half before his untimely death in 1997. The release of her eponymous mini-album (and particularly the track 'Stagger Into The Light') in 2005 was what really turned me on to her music. This is the first taste of her forthcoming third full length solo album 'The Deep Field' due out January 24th.
